Sturdy Wooden Window Box
This is a lovely wooden window box with a beautiful finish. It is made of thick wood to which makes it solid and able to hold more soil or larger pots.
And, because of the extra weight it will have, it is important to make sure that it is well attached to the side of your home. This is especially true if it is in the top floor.

This is a simple yet good looking rectangular metal frame window box. It is designed to hold a few containers. This way, you can see the containers as well as the flowers.
Metal frames are a good option to wooden boxes. They’ll last longer and wont degrade with time due to the elements.
Classical Window Boxes
This is another metal frame window box that’s used for two windows side by side. When you have an arrangement like this, you can easily match the flowers on both boxes which makes them symmetrical.
While this window box design looks similar to that above, it is isn’t as spacious from front to back which means it holds smaller containers.
Repurposed Crate Window Boxes
If you have old wooden crates lying In storage somewhere, here’s a lovely idea you can use them for.
Similarly, you can create your own crates using some wood. If you want to recreate the used finish, you can go out and find some in the paint store.
This is a lovely look because they’re much more spacious that most window boxes. As such, you can place bigger plants in them.
Floating Window Box
This floating window box was made for only one side of the window for some reason or another. The box itself looks similar to a few other in the list.
But, if you look closely, it does have some design differences. For example, the top border protrudes out a little bit more than most of the others.
Window Box Planter
If you want something that is a little more decorative, you can do something like this. Moldings add a nice touch since most window boxes are rectangular in shape with flat edges.

DIY Mailbox Style Window Box
I love this mailbox look because it is very different from the others. This window box idea won’t hold as many flowers as it is a lot narrower. As such, do choose the right plants.
As you can see in the photo, plants with a bit of a trailing nature will work just as well here since the box is tall.
For an added effect, its top is uneven as well.
Window Box with Moldings
This is another window box with moldings. It uses a less elaborate design. And, the box itself is also wider than the window. The latter makes it different from many of the other ideas in our list where the width of the box is as wide or less than the width of the window.
Simple Window Box
This is simple yet amazing to look at. If you look closely it also uses a different style compared to many of the other ideas in the list.
Instead of using wood, paint or another color that’s different to its surroundings, this box uses the same hue with a different shade of the color. Thus, you get a more monochromatic look.
Nevertheless, the difference between lighter and darker shades make it lovely to look at. Even, the flowers chosen for the planter use the same color theme.
Farmhouse Window Box
This is a lovely design if you want something that’s more decorative. As far as choices go, it is really up to you.
You can use different kinds of supports to give it the look you have. And, you can decorate the façade with all sorts of adornments to achieve the design you want.
DIY Wood Box Panel
Here’s another take on the wooden window box. It uses a little bit of finish on the wood in order to get the look that goes well with the white background.
One of the best things about DIY projects is that you can create it the perfect size. Such is the case here where the box is exactly the same length as the window.
DIY Window Box from Old Drawer
This DIY window box idea uses the front side of an old cabinet drawer and two holders underneath to keep a planter in place.
As such from the front it looks like the cabinet drawer is the window box. This is a creative way or using parts of old furniture to decorate your windows.
Spacious DIY Wooden Planter
When creating your own window box designs it is a good idea to add some kind of shape so that it does not look like a bland rectangular box.
One great idea is to use is that that goes in and out. Notice that top and bottom levels go further out while the middle section of the box is thinner.
This gives the box character which makes it look amazing.
