DIY tree trunk ideas and projects are a great way to repurpose an old stump or remining part of a tree.
At some point, all trees will need to come down. But, you’ll be left with its large stump.
Since they often take up a good portion of space, it is a good idea to reuse them for something.
This also keeps them from looking out of place in your otherwise well-organized, well-thought out garden.

This is a an unique and amazing table that nobody has. You can create it for yourself with by using a tree that has quite a free large branches.
By choosing the portion where the base of the branches begin rather than the stump or lower part of the trunk, your table will be one of a kind since no two tree are exactly alike.
Tree Trunk Train Set
If you’ve got some wood carving skills and enjoy creating a project once in a while, try this tree trunk train set for one.
This is sure to be a one of the kids favorites.
It does take quite a bit of planning, measuring and carving. But, when you’re done, you’ll have amazing garden art in your backyard nobody else will have.

Hobbit Hideaway
Want to invite fairies or hobbits to you garden?
Here’s a lovely tree trunk project that you can do. It takes a lot of work plus you have to be very meticulous since you won’t be able to fix any big mistakes.
Adding lights is always a lovely touch since it adds character to the project come night time.
Cushioned Stools
Here’s something very functional that are chic as well. Plus, they’re very comfortable to sit on.
You will need to get big, thick trunks and a few of them with the same width to pull this off. Otherwise, you’ll end up with mismatching sizes.
Once you hollow out the top section, you’ll be able to add a cushion there.
Tree Border
For something simple yet amazing to look at and functional as well, here’s an amazing flower or garden border that’s created by using flatted out parts of a tree trunk.
This gives you a wide, solid border where your family or guests and sit next to your garden as well.
Floral Tree Stump
Tree stumps are very difficult to remove. As such, most gardeners just cut them down near the bas and repurpose them.
Unfortunately, this leaves a section of your yard or garden a bit bare since the tree that used to be there is now gone.
One way to decorate it is to grow plants and flowers on and around it. Foliage of different shades or green as well as a few colorful flowers will spruce it up nicely.
Flower Arrangement
If you prefer something more elaborate, here’s something you can do – lay a log horizontally on the ground and hollow out a section. Then grow a few wonderful plants in it.
This makes for an amazing garden decoration.

This is another variation of the tree trunk table. But this time, it is the table top that’s the focus on the entire piece.
Using a nice lovely old wooden tabletop is a great way to repurpose an old cut down tree to make that spot somewhere everyone can hang around.
Outdoor Circular Seating
This DIY tree trunk idea uses the wood for chairs instead of the table. In fact, the table is simply a large rock.
On the other hand, the chairs are made from tree trunks. You can cut out the upper half and middle sections for form the backrest and provide enough seating spaces.
Tree Trunk Stands
Here’s another wany to use tree trunks – as stands. Their wide circular diameter makes them perfect for placing items. This lets you use them much like furniture where you put objects on top.
Make sure that you cut the top flat so that the objects don’t tilt or slide towards one direction.
Tree Planter
This is beautiful addition to any garden or backyard. By repurposing the tree as a planter, you’ll able to grow a bunch of flowers in the middle.
You will need to hollow out at least part of the middle so that there will be some space to add the soil.
The deeper the roots of the flowers you want to grow there, the more depth the hole will need.
Tree Trunk Furniture
This is another version of the tree trunk stools above. But, by covering the cushion with leather, you can make it more elegant looking instead of rustic.
This makes its perfect if you want to use it as indoor furniture.
Afternoon Tea Seating
This wonderfully creative DIY tree trunk idea combines a few of the projects in our list. You have the table and the stools.
But, by adding a grass turf layer it takes each of the other projects up a notch.
The combination makes for a great relaxing spot in your yard where you can enjoy afternoon tea or coffee with friends.
Tree Playground
Here’s something the kids will truly enjoy – a playground. Instead of cutting down the entire tree, why not leave a part of it and take advantage of its size and stature.
That’s the case with this tree trunk idea as it creates a climbing wall and slide.
Outdoor Chair
There are a few treen trunk chairs in or list. But, this is probably the one that looks and feels most like a real one.
That’s because it has your regular seating are and backrest.
You can create this simple tree trunk project by using an old wooden chair and cutting out its legs. Then attaching it over the tree trunk.
Outdoor Potted Plant Stand
This is simpler than most of the others. By flattening out the top of the trunk, you create a surface that you can use as a planter.
This lets you add wonderful foliage plants or even training ones.
