DIY Raised Planter Box Ideas That are Easy to Make
DIY Raised Planter Box with Screen Top Cover
This is a simple DIY raised planter box with a flip top cover which keeps deer, rabbits and other animals from messing with your vegetables.
I love that the way the protective screen is made such that you can just open it up like you would a hood of a BBQ grill.
This makes it very practical and easy to use.
The best part is that it is easy to make as there are no added frills to it.
Raised Aluminum Planter Boxes
Most raised planter boxes and garden beds use wood because you can easily find wood. And, with a little bit of carpentry work, you’ll be able to create a lovely looking bed.
Another option to that is using aluminum. This eliminates the problems that come with wood which include deterioration over time and the ease of getting damaged.
Aluminum is also light and weatherproof.
However, it does take a bit more work to put this together as fabrication is not as straightforward as cutting up wood and nailing them together.

Elevated Cedar Planter Box with Trellis
In case you want the entire planter box to be elevated above the ground, this is a great option.
All you need to do is add some legs to it. But, make sure the legs are balanced and they’re able to hold the weight of the box after it has been filled with soil.
Wet soil will get very heavy. So, it is a good idea to make sure that the design is sturdy enough.
Finally, there’s the added trellis on the back if you happen to grow any climbers.
Checker Style Wooden Crate Raised Planter Boxes
This is a combination of 5 rectangular wooden planter boxes that are arranged in a tic-tac-toe like scheme.
In order to achieve this look, you’ll need 5 equal sized planter boxes and a could of posts or a wall behind them.
By resting the top box on the edges of the bottom boxes and sticking the back to the poles, you’re able to stabilize the entire shape and keep the weight balanced.
Slim Planter Box with Trellis
Here’s one of our DIY raised planter box ideas that’s not only functional but also beautiful. It doesn’t have as much space, so you won’t be able to plant as much in it as many of the others.
Instead, it is designed to be more for decorative purposes with the lovely finish.
You may or may not use the trellis on top depending on what look you’re going for.
Space Saving Wooden Raised Planter Box
This is another raised planter box that’s slim in design. It is ideal if you live in apartments or small balconies where you want to be able to grow some plants. But, don’t want the planters to take up a lot of room since you’re already short on space.
Large DIY Raised Planter
In contrast, this one is designed for planting. And, it is very spacious.
Like many of the outdoor planter boxes in this list, you don’t even need to paint or varnish the wood. Instead, allowing its natural colors to shine works really well. This also lets it blend well with your garden.
Depending on what kind of plants you want to grow you can make the depth for the soil deeper or shallower.
Raised Planter Box with Wooden Trellis
This is another take on the wooden planter box with trellis. But this one is designed less for looks and more for your yard or patio.
It also has a larger planter box which allows you to grow substantially more plants.
3-Tiered Raised Garden Bed
Indoors, you don’t have the luxury of creating an overly large raised bed or planter box. So, taking advantage of vertical space is essential.
And, this lovely design is something you can show off in your living room.
It uses 3 inverted hexagonal planter boxes that are held one on top of the other by two stands at the back. For ample support, the stands have big wide feet.
As with all indoor furniture, you want to take extra time to make the exterior look amazing.
Built-in Raised Concrete Planter
This one will take a bit of masonry work. Although you can convert it from its brick and concrete construction into all wood if you’re more comfortable with that medium.
A wooden version will likewise have the advantage of not being built-into the ground as well. So, you can move it as needed.
The planter box is amazing to look at. And, it has an added bench so guests can sit against it.
Multi-Compartment Raised Flower Planters
If you want to be able to plant different things in your DIY raised planter box ideas, then this is a good idea to use or modify to your needs.
It uses a raised bed. But, one you get above the 3rd piece of wood, the surface splits up into 4 equal parts. Each one will have different heights which helps make them all very easy to see.
Elevated Cedar Planter Boxes
This is another elevated DIY planter box idea. Creating multiple containers allows you to grow different crops.
It is likewise perfect if you don’t have a contiguous space where one big raised garden bed can be created. By splitting up that one bed into smaller ones, you’ll be able to create enough space for all the plants you want to grow.
