Looking for amazing DIY plant shelf ideas? Here are some you can recreate with a little bit of carpentry knowledge.

In most cases, all you need are some pieces of wood and a saw of some kind to make the exact cuts to produce the entire shelf.

Among the many possible designs available, these are my favorites.

DIY Plant Shelf Ideas

This is a simple, yet very beautiful and spacious plant shelf stand where you can hang baskets and still have enough space for pots.

The design also lets you keep in indoors or outside.

This IDY plant shelf ideas is made using 3 wooden planks and a few old pipe fittings. It does take a little planning and woodwork as you need to attach the piping to the pieces of wood.

To make it easy to move, especially after it is filled with plants is to add casters at the bottom.

Hamper Style Plant Shelf

This design is very similar to the DIY shelf above. But this time, you only have 2 shelves with a lot more space between them.

The shape of the frame is likewise similar. However, this one is thicker all over. And, it is made from wood.

The use of the wood makes this more refined looking. But, it also requires a lot of cutting and measuring to get all the pieces of wood to fit correctly.

This is one of my all-time favorites because of the way it looks. It is elegant, refined and stunning.

This best part of all is that you can create this amazing project yourself.

All you need are a few pieces of wood. The goal is to create boxes to keep them in. But, because plants need oxygen and air circulation, don’t enclose it in glass. That will turn the shelf into a terrarium.

You can use the design of an aquarium as a guide since the shelf resembles that.

You can finish the wood however way you want. And, add some lighting inside. Fluorescent light or grow lights both work very well depending on the kind of plants you keep in there. And, it will let you place the shelf in lower lit areas in your room.

Window Shelf

Window Shelf

While the previous item may need extra light for some plants, that’s rarely the case for this DIY plant shelf idea.

The window will provide ample lighting that will allow the plants to thrive.

As for the window shelf, it is hung using the ropes on both sides of the shelves. So, you do need to find a way to attach the rope from above much like you do blinds.

I love that the shelves give you so much space for many plants. this allows you to spread them out nicely.

DIY Shelf from Old Pipes

DIY Shelf from Old Pipes

This design looks very similar to the baggage carriers bellhops in hotels use. But, this one is created from old pipes that you can repurpose for this project.

You will likewise need a platform at the bottom where the pots will sit in. Depending on what you prefer, you can use different kinds of wood or even a metal surface.

Vertical Back to Back Shelf

For a lovely, sleek modern look, here’s a wonderful idea. And, you can create your very own version with just a few pieces of wood and some pain.

The key is to create balance. This keeps the design from looking lopsided which our eyes don’t like. Instead, we find things visually appealing when they’re symmetrical.

Multi-level Tower Shelves

That said, if you know how to modify symmetry, you’ll be able to use it to your own advantage.

This is a great example as the use of 3 very similar symmetrical looking plant towers are used. This allows you to adjust their heights while still keeping its beauty.

Low A-Frame Shelf

Low A-Frame Shelf

You can create this stunning shelf with metal or wood. The former looks more impressive. But, it also requires welding skills and sourcing some pieces of metal.

Another element that makes this stand out are the marble platforms that make the shelves themselves. Again, you can use different material. But, I love the combination of the dark gray slabs along with the black metal.

Hanging Plant Shelves

Hanging Plant Shelves

This is not technically a shelf. But, it provides the same function, which is to hold plants in place.

These require a handle with care approach since kids running around the home can easily knock the plants over.

But, there’s no denying that they’re spectacular to look.

If you want something that can hold many small plants and bring some of its own flair, this is a great plant shelf to check out. The best thing about this design is you can let your imagination run wild.

Needless to say, it is important to plan out the different shelves so you know how long each piece of wood needs to be.

Elegant Wooden Plant Stand

Elegant Wooden Plant Stand

This is another plant stand that follows a couple of similar designs above. The thing I like most about this is the slatted shelves.

By adding small slits, you give the stand a different look. It also adds a lot of character to it.

Bookshelf

Bookshelf

This looks like a bookshelf you’d see in the library or something similar to the magazine stand vendors use.

But, with a little modification, it makes for a gorgeous outdoor plant shelf. The triangular ends give it a lot of character. It also increases the amount of space you have in the lower shelves.

And, like many other shelf ideas in this list, you can DIY this project.

Crazy Maze Plant Shelf

Crazy Maze Plant Shelf

This is probably the most unique looking piece in our list of DIY plant shelf ideas.

The random and creative ways to extend the different shelves in all sorts of direction make this perfect if you want something fun and less uniform in your home.

Like many of the shelves here, it is ideal for small container plants.

Multi-Tiered Plant Shelf

If you want something that will cover a blank space near the wall or corner, this is an amazing idea.

The structure of the shelf itself is eye-catching on its own.

But, add some small plants in containers and you’ve got something spectacular.
