DIY Flower Garden Ideas
Hanging Flower Garden
This is one of my all time favorites. It is the combination of how the containers and hung, the overhead beams and the kinds of flowers used.
Together, they give you something amazing beautiful and elegant. Plus, it does not take up a lot of space.
But, the best part about it is, you can easily recreate this with come hooks and hanging planters.
Hexagon Garden Bed
Another wonderful flower garden idea you can create is to place many different colored blooms together.
This one uses a hexagonal flower bed to do this. You can build it simply by placing 6 pieces of wood to form 6 sides of a closed shape.
Make sure they’re set and sturdy since you’ll be filling it with soil and watering the soil on a regular basis.

Water Canister with Lights
Here’s something that’s whimsy and awesome to look at night.
And, all you need is an old water canister, a post to hold the canister and some outdoor string lights. Make sure to use lights designed for the outdoors so they don’t short when it rains.
You’ll also need somewhere safe to plug it into which can be an issue if your home isn’t fitted with some wiring in the garden.
In any case, this is a lovely lighting design especially at night.
Obelisk Trellis with Giant Flowers
This is something that’s often used for vegetable gardening. Obelisks and other vertical structures help some plant grow optimally.
In this case, it’s to hold up the giant sunflowers. Giant sunflowers are amazing because of how big and beautiful their blooms are. But, their size also makes them top heavy relative their thin stems.
As such, they’ll bend over without enough support.
Along with the obelisk trellis, you can set up a garden bed as well. Although optional, this lets you section off your garden as well as use soil that’s more suitable for your plants.
Fun and Colorful Planter Flower Garden
Got old barrels? Why not use them as giant planters.
If you want to add some fun to them, recreate something like this wonderful DIY idea where you and your kids can paint the barrels and even add some faces to them.
The umbrellas are a nice final touch but they’re also there to block out the sun during the afternoons.
Cabinet Planter
Instead of old barrels, you can likewise use an old cabinet drawer.
Open up the drawers and grow whatever plants you want there. This can be perfect for small herb gardens as well as flowers.
To keep the top from being too plain, you an set some kind of container there as well.
Checkerboard Flower Garden
By far one of the most creative things I’ve seen. This flower garden idea makes use of square slabs of stone that are arranged in a chess or checkerboard style.
And, in the blank spaces, you can grow flowers. This definitely gives square foot gardening a different meaning.
I’m not exactly sure if the slacks are stuck to the ground or their weight just keeps them in place. Either way, it’s a stunning landscaping design to look at.
Spilled Pot Flowers
Another amazing design are spilled flower pots. This one is uses a giant container.
And, as lovely as they look, they can be a little tricky to create because you need all the flowers to grow at the right spots to produce the exact effect.
In most cases, ground covers are great for this because they make the spilled look very obvious.
Fence Flower Garden
This flower garden idea is one of the most traditional designs around. But, what makes it stand out is its color and the use of different flowers, grasses and rocks.
Often flowers and shrubs by the fence come with one or at most two varieties. Here, you’ve got all sorts of different colors and flower sizes that make it very unique.
Monogram Planter
This is such a creative idea that’s executed with perfection.
Creating a monogram outline gives you the ability to grow plants in the space like you would shelves.
And, the shape of the letter will dictate how they’re organized.
Vertical Flower Garden
This is one of the most beautiful vertical flower garden ideas I’ve ever seen.
It is a combination of a wooden structure with a criss cross pattern hung up against the wall. You can create one or something similar with a little bit of carpentry work on a weekend.
Then grow different colored blooms to fill out the spaces between the diagonal squares.
Side of House Flower Garden
Growing a narrow flower bed by the side of the house is one of the most well-known ways to decorate your home.
By adding lovely foliage plants and colorful blooms you instantly add some appeal to an otherwise drab, flat surface that meets the soil.
It also always helps to add some kind of border. In this case, the homeowner uses bricks. But you can very well use rocks for an easier DIY creation.
Ladder Flower Pots
Old ladders or DIY wooden ladders make a great backdrop for different plants because they give you vertical space to grow them.
This makes it perfect if you don’t have a lot of room in the yard. And, you get to decide how you want to organize the plants.
In this case, you have clay pots with bright purple-blue and green foliage and flowers. The bushier the plant the better it will look for this design. And, using bright colors that contrast the wooden background will make them pop out more.
